Keeping your data secure is of utmost importance to us. To ensure data security, we recommend that your Internet browser is updated with the following Transport Layer Security protocol settings (TLS). TLS enables privacy, integrity and protection for the data that is transmitted on the Internet. It helps to ensure no third party may eavesdrop, tamper with any message, or inject message forgery.

How does this affect you?

Effective September 10, 2017, older settings: TLS 1.0, SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 will no longer allow you to access your account. The newer TLS 1.1 or TLS 1.2 is required. These versions of TLS are generally the default setting on the latest browser versions.

What do you need to do?

Before September 10, 2017, you should check to ensure that your TLS setting is TLS 1.2.

If using Internet Explorer, check settings this way:
1. In the Menu Command bar, click Tools on the right side and select Internet Options.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Scroll down to the Security section.
4. Check the box to Use TLS 1.2

If using Chrome, check settings this way:
1. In the Menu Command bar, click Settings.
2. Click on Show Advanced Settings.
3. Scroll down to the Network (System) section.
4. Click on the Open/Change Proxy Settings box
5. Select “Advanced” tab
6. Scroll down and check the Use TLS 1.2 box

IMPORTANT: Please check your TLS setting before September 10, 2017. If you have any questions, please contact your Trust Officer.

Email Encryption

We have implemented an email encryption system to enhance the security of financial and personal information contained in emails. The first time we send you an encrypted email you will receive instructions on how to log into our authentication site and establish a password that will open all future encrypted emails.


To ensure a satisfactory experience, Portfolio Online has been verified for compatibility for use with the following browsers and operating systems. Browsers are verified through the two most recent versions available. As of 10/08/2015 supported Browsers and Operating Systems are:

In order to enhance security of your confidential financial information, any user id that is not used for 90 days will automatically be disabled. If it remains inactive for an additional 90 days, the id will be deleted. If you are using your web access to view statements that generate on a quarterly or annual basis, please be aware that you should login more frequently to avoid any issues.

This Agreement governs the use of Portfolio Online, the internet account information service provided by TCV. By using Portfolio Online to view your account, you agree to all of the following terms and conditions.

1. Definitions as used in this Agreement
Account and accounts mean TCV account(s) tied to your access identification number used through Portfolio Online. You, your, and yours mean the person(s) using TCV Portfolio Online. We, our and us refer to TCV, TCV Trust & Wealth Management, and The Trust Company of Virginia, a division of TCV Trust & Wealth Management .

2. Required Equipment
In order to use TCV Portfolio Online, you need a computer (in this Agreement, your computer and the related equipment are referred to together as your computer) with a web browser, an access identification number, and a personal identification number or PIN. The access identification number is assigned to you by our administration. It, along with your PIN, is used to access your account(s) through TCV Portfolio Online. You are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of your computer, browser and the software. TCV is not responsible for any errors or failures from any malfunction of your computer, the browser, or the software. TCV is also not responsible for any computer virus or related problems that may be associated with the use of an online system.

3. TCV Portfolio Online Service
TCV Portfolio Online allows you to obtain account balances and other information about your accounts. To use TCV Portfolio Online, you must have at least one TCV account. Through Portfolio Online, you will have access to any of your TCV accounts. We reserve the right to deny access to an account under certain circumstances. The information available via Portfolio Online is time delayed by at least one business day and therefore may not accurately represent current conditions within the account accessed. You should contact us at (804) 272-9044 during business hours if you need up-to-the-minute information. Our business days are Monday through Friday, except holidays on which we are closed. Access to TCV Portfolio Online is available twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, except during maintenance periods.

4. Unlawful or Unauthorized Use
You may not use TCV Portfolio Online for any unlawful or unauthorized purpose whatsoever. You will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations which apply to service relationships of this nature and specifically agree that you will not attempt to utilize TCV Portfolio Online to access the account of another person.

5. PIN Use and Security
Use of your unique PIN is required to access TCV Portfolio Online. You acknowledge that your PIN is unique, and must be kept private and confidential to protect the security of your account. You agree not to give or make available your PIN to any unauthorized individual. If you believe your PIN has been lost or stolen, or someone has attempted to use TCV Portfolio Online without your consent, your account(s) have been accessed, or someone has transferred funds without your permission, you must notify us immediately (see Contact Information below). If you lose or forget your PIN, contact us immediately so that you may select a new confidential PIN. In order to allow for a high degree of confidentiality and security, we recommend the use of browsers that provide encryption using a 128-bit key. The higher the level of encryption, the harder it is for unauthorized people to read information. Commercial, off-the-shelf browsers typically support 40-bit encryption. Many browser suppliers, however, offer special 128-bit encryption versions, available for download from their respective web sites. TCV recommends that customers protect their valuable financial information by using the most secure encryption possible.

6. Our Liability
We are committed to using our best efforts to make TCV Portfolio Online available to you. However, we shall incur no liability if it is unable to provide TCV Portfolio Online to you for any reason, including but not limited to any of the following circumstances:

A. You have not provided us with sufficient information to access TCV Portfolio Online.
B. Your Computer, Internet Service Provider, Browser or TCV Portfolio Online was not working properly.
C. Circumstances beyond our controls that prevent the proper execution of the transaction (including but not limited to power outages, internet failures, fire, flood, or interference from an outside force) .

You agree that your exclusive remedy and the cumulative liability of our company for any and all claims relating to TCV Portfolio Online services provided by our company, in contract, tort, or otherwise, shall not exceed the total amount of any service fees paid to our company for TCV Portfolio Online services. In no event shall we be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, or exemplary damages, including lost profits (even if advised of the possibility thereof) arising in any way out of the use of TCV Portfolio Online.

7. Exclusion of Warranties
You understand that Internetworking communications utilizing public access facilities may not be secure, and that such communications may be subject to interception, loss or distortion. TCV make no warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, concerning the confidentiality and accuracy of data of information available through the TCV Portfolio Online service. Consequently, you acknowledge that the use of the TCV Portfolio Online service, and the inherent possibilities of inaccuracy or disclosure of the data or information accessed through TCV Portfolio Online, will be solely at your risk. TCV Portfolio Online and related documentation are provided as is without any warranty of any particular kind expressed or implied, including, but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose

8. Concurrent Agreements
The terms and conditions in this Agreement are supplements to, and do not supersede, any trust agreements or any other agreements that you have with TCV Trust & Wealth Management, or The Trust Company of Virginia, a division of TCV Trust & Wealth Management.

9. Alterations and Amendments
The Terms of this Agreement may be altered or amended by us from time to time, including the addition of fees and service charges. In such event, TCV shall post any alterations or amendments to this Agreement on its Website in place of any prior version of this Agreement. Your continued use of the service after we provide you with such a notice of change will constitute your agreement to such change(s).

10. Termination or Discontinuation
TCV reserves the right to terminate or discontinue TCV Portfolio Online and this Agreement at any time. You may terminate this Agreement upon thirty (30) days prior written notice to TCV Portfolio Online. Neither termination nor discontinuation shall affect your liability or obligations under this Agreement.

11. Disputes
In the event of a dispute regarding TCV Portfolio Online, you and TCV agree to resolve the dispute according to this Agreement. If there is a conflict between the terms of this Agreement and some other writing or statement relating specifically to the subject matter of this Agreement, the terms of this Agreement shall control.

12. Assignment
You may not assign this Agreement to any other party. We may assign this Agreement to any present or future, directly or indirectly, affiliated company. We may also assign or delegate certain of its rights and responsibilities under this Agreement to independent contractors or other third parties.

13. No Waiver
TCV shall not be deemed to have waived any of its rights or remedies hereunder unless such waiver is in writing and signed by TCV. No delay or omission on the part of TCV in exercising any right or remedy shall operate as a waiver of such right or remedy or any other rights or remedies. A waiver on any particular occasion shall not be construed as a bar or waiver of any rights or remedies on future occasions.

14. Governing Law
This Agreement is made in Virginia and shall be governed by the internal substantive laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and by applicable Federal laws and regulations.
